{Sonnet Sunday} Shakespeare XIX

{my Moleskine}

Oh Sunday, glorious Sunday... Definetely a time for rest as I just uploaded a third of my MA Thesis to my counsellor yesterday and I am quite exhausted. Writing about colonialism and the power and abuse of language is surprisingly tough. It baffles me how indifferent and evil people have been to eachother, and so many of the aspects are even more saddening still issues which we deal with today.

So now I need a day of peace and quiet, sipping tea and perhaps treating myself to a little sweet indulgence from the bakery and pastisserie nearby.
And of course also a little treat for the mind, and even though today is both Jane Austen's AND Beethoven's birthday, I give you Shakespeare.

So enjoy your Sundays, and make sure to take the time to breathe and just listen to everything and nothing at the same time.

{Sonnet Sunday} Shakespeare XVIII

{my Moleskine}

The most famous sonnet by Shakespeare of them all. I am not sure whether I think it is the best though. However, it is pretty neat and as the hopeless romantic that I am, I would die if someone would write that to me... Not that it is anything close to that ever happening, ha!

From time to time, I try to memorize this so I can recite it by heart whenever I feel like the world needs a little grandeur literary life. Not to anyone but just to myself whenever I feel the world to be too brutal and in need of some grace. One could perhaps call it my First Aid kit to literature in the everyday life.

Do you have a quote, poem, or something you cherish or memorize whenever you feel the world to be too much?

{Sonnet Sunday Shakespeare XVII}

{my scan}

Just enjoying a silent Sunday before what will most likely be a busy week with signing my dissertation contract (things just getting real!!!!) and getting into a good writing routine.
I really love this particular sonnet by Shakespeare. So graceful and elegant. I hope my little scrapbooking does it partly justice.

Have a wonderful and peaceful day.

{Sonnet Sunday: Shakespeare XVI}

{my Moleskine}

Today it is a nice warm sun shining down on us. On this day last year, the rays of the sun burst through the windows at the church when the organ started at my father's funeral. It was like my father said that it was all okay now.
Today I start to think so too.

{Sonnet Sunday} Shakespeare No. XIV

{my Moleskine scan}

Just finished some new pages in my Moleskine. The weather isn't really sunny summer so I'm spending my time gathering inspiration for various art projects and searching for literature for my MA thesis.
Other than that I am trying to plan my joined birthday celebration with my Mother (we have our birthdays ten days apart). We are just going with the low key and casual despite me turning 25 (!!!!) and here in Denmark that means A LOT of cinnamon if you are unwed.. But this tradition, I will tell you more about later..

{Sonnet Sunday: Shakespeare XIII}

It has been quite a while since the last Sonnet Sunday, but I have recieved a some good news about my exam project, so I felt like a little celebration. And Shakespeare is the man to go to...

The small picture in my collage is of a painting by Kathrine Ærtebjerg who I have posted about here.

Christmas Sneak-peaks 2.0

A couple of photos from my own Christmas decor.
You may be able to tell that I love love love ice crystals. I find them to be the prime natural wonder of this world.
I even get misty eyed if I think of it too much.. Well, my love for winter trumps my love for Christmas. And thus, I really miss snow.
The past two years we had heaps of snow in Denmark (last year, even more than in the south of Greenland!) and I miss the beauty that comes with it. That said, I don't miss the wet boots and red noses. But it is a fair exchange for snow in my opinion.

Anyways here goes...

All images are mine and edited by me.

Christmas Sneak-Peaks

Just a small collection of how I decorate for Christmas this year.
I favour the natural look so I have chosen oranges, pine cones, chesnuts, and spices to lay around the apartment. Love the smell when I enter my front door of star anise and cinnamon. Today, I bought the ingredients to make a chai-mix so I have some weekend projects as well.

Even though I prefer the nature and winter look, I have several colourful ornaments with glitter and gilded decor from my bohemian-gypsy-Indian phase. I usually cluster them all together in a big vase or bowl.

My new additions this year are the candy canes. And the good thing is off course that you can eat them or put them in your coffee or hot chocolate. nom nom nom!

All images are mine.

All you need is salt water...

... sweat, tears, or the sea.
~ Karen Blixen

On many levels this is true, my personal favourit of these is the sea. Around water I feel calm, humble, sincere, and at peace. My dream is to live close to the sea and my favourite time of year by the seaside is in the fall with the rough winds creating gigantic waves. The salty smell and the seaweed instantly calm me, and the drizzle from the foam on my face makes me reload my batteries, and helps me focus on what is truly important to me.

Luckily in Aarhus, we are close to the sea and when the wind is right you can smell the salt.
There are several great spots along the shore, both for bathing and strolling. The spot closest to downtown Aarhus is Tangkrogen (literally The Seaweed Hook) where I spend Tuesday afternoon last week. It was beautiful, strong, sunny, and lonely. I gathered a small collection of blue mussels with mother-of-pearl on the inside.

The wind was rough and a little chilly, but the beautiful hues of the greens and blues along in the sunshine backed it up wonderfully.
I had been in a state of mind where I didn't know anything or what to do, and somehow the sea created a pause for me and my mind was set in a vacuum and thus I could remember something I almost had forgotten - breathing.
 Just for half an hour, I could be something else, something less, something more than I had been prior that day.
I walked home with a serene smile on my face and the salty wind in my hair. The emotions I couldn't convey were acted out before me by the sea and the notion that I was just a small part of it all was quite calming.

Sunday Sonnet VII

I hope you can see what it says, its much clearer in real life but my scanner nipped out the colour a bit.
The lilac cut-outs are from a soap-box so now my Moleskine smells wonderfully of lilacs! Devine!

Have a wonderful Sunday before next week's hazzle.

Sonnet Sunday: Sonnet VI

I have something with owls at the moment (damn you, Pinterest!) and I just bought a copy of the Danish interior magazine Bolig Magasinet which had a special owl print as a present for the readers. It was so cute. They are pictured in the cut out framed. And well, it made me a bit inspired to draw my own owl in the blank space under the sonnet. I suffer greatly from Horror Vacui as you can tell, ha!
Anyways, there's not much on my mind today, just take care and share the joy. Make it a day for remembrance and bettering ourselves.

Sonnet Sunday: Sonnet V

So the beautiful sonnet and the picture have nothing whatsoever in common other than they are both beautiful. I just thought the opposite page seemed so bare when I had done the little vignette, and my orchid 'Betty' {yes, I name my flowers. I truly believe that's why they haven't died from me yet} was soon loosing all of her flowers so I decided to pick one before it started to go brown.

This is my last day of summer, tomorrow I start classes yet again. Not that I mind really. The weather has been so bad this summer that I actually long for seing smiling faces and gorgeous books again. I'm quite excited and thankfully I'm starting to feel completely well again after almost a whole month's of illness. I feel sick of feeling sick! But tomorrow is another day, and who knows - maybe I'll wake up feeling like running to school! {probably not - and even if I did, I never would!} However, time will tell if I feel well enough to ride my bike or have to succomb to the public transportation. Given that I still shake a little of small fevers and dehydration I'd put my money on the busses.
But we'll see..

My first edited photograph

This is my first test of a (for me) newly discovered photo service online called Pixlr.com. They have a feature to give your photos different vintage looks to them which is very cool.

Anyways, this is just some random pretty things I have around my apartment; H&M Hello Kitty nail polish {the most wonderful dusty pink colour}, Leone pastilles, Christel Mariott re-production, vintage tiny teacup with leaf-shaped saucer, a wooden dice which says Love, Vacoom, Sleep, Watch TV, Party, Dishes, two old keys, and a jar where I keep the buttons that come along with shirts and blouses. Nice to know it's all in one place, right?

Do you know any cool sites online to change and redo photos? I'm still not that keen on installing Photoshop since I haven't had a proper guide to it, and somehow my head doesn't comprehend the online tutorials, and so far it will take up a lot of space on my pc. But please drop me a note if you know eithe pixlr or another great site.

How To: The Waterfall Braid - version 1

Over at pinterest, I discovered this pretty hair style and finally got the hang of it after intensely starring at photos for ages...
I call it version 1 because after all my efforts, I noticed some slight changes in the photos of this hair style. I still have not quite figured that out yet but anyways, here's my illustration of perhaps the easier version. Hope you'll like it.

And here's the photos that inspired me: {image} {image}

You can see that these girls choose to braid the last section as a normal braid. I personally just tied with bobby pins in the side.
I really like this hair style, and it can be achieved by most with a little practice.

So, could this be a summer hair style for you guys? I definately think I will be sporting this a lot.
