Hi, I'm Mari, a writer for Arcadian Lighting, the place for light fixtures and lighting ideas on the Internet. As part of my work, I get to visit lovely blogs like The Dandelion Chronicles. I'm so excited to be visiting with you today to talk about fabulous lazy French daybeds. The daybed is one of my favorite pieces of furniture—so beautiful and versatile at the same time. It seems a daybed can fit into almost any space, from bedroom to living room or study. There's something so inherently appealing about French daybeds, whether they're upholstered or dressed up in gorgeous bedding. They also look absolutely stunning with a chandelier! With so many lovely examples, it was difficult to choose only eight, but we persevered and here they are. Please enjoy!

Wrought iron with a garden look, this shapely French daybed is all decked out in some of Bella Notte's crisp white linens and fabulous embroidered velvet bedding

With classic good looks and formal lines, this smoky purple daybed is perfect for lazy weekend lounging.

Another traditional French daybed is stunning in pearl gray. At night, this space will look even more gorgeous space in the glow a quintessential French light fixture, the glamorous crystal chandelier.

All about rustic elegance, the Somerset from French Laundry Home is a perfect daybed for rooms filled with faded glory by design.

Can you say elegant chic French style? With traditional lines, this whitewashed daybed looks gorgeous in a contemporary setting. It invites an avid reader to while away pleasant hours propped against comfortable pillows.

How inviting is this draped French daybed? I love the large scale painting and not one, but two sparkling chandeliers.

Architectural Digest brought us the home of Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne and this was one of my favorite corners. I love everything about this image—sumptuous velvet on a French daybed/chaise, yummy silk drapes, Chinoiserie wallpaper and the lovely little wall sconce.

Perhaps my first choice of all our lazy French daybeds--even without a mattress and bedding to dress it up, this one is simply beguiling. Doesn't it evoke questions about where it's traveled and what gorgeous spaces it's been a part of?

{Lookbook: Noa Noa 2006}

Taking a rest from studies with homemade Madeleines and strong tea, I thought I would share these images from an old lookbook by the Danish brand Noa Noa. So whimsical, pastel, layers, and feminine.

However, it is said to be easily too much if you create an outfit just from that brand. But perhaps that is just because it is so far from the normal minimalist uniform here in Scandinavia. It is rare to see someone not wearing edgy and minimalistic clothing, so naturally it would easily be out of Scandinavian women's comfort zones.

Nevertheless, I think the styling of this lookbook is amazing, and I feel very inspired going through it. I also thought it was quite fun that it featured a slight 20s vibe now that everyone is doing that, and the lookbook is from 2006.

Gorgeous lighting and setting. All of it just works in these photos but it would take a a couple of deep breaths if I were to face the world confidently looking like this. Some of the items are wonderful, and I do have a couple of pieces from Noa Noa, but I think they sometimes stuff their collections with too much felt!

Anyways, these are beautiful images and that's the main reason for today's post.

Hi lovelies.. This is going to be like an old recording machine gone broken because yet again I feel like this month rushed by and not really saying 'hi' or anything. Crazy fast, really.

However, state of the affairs are well. Posting my synopsis for one of my exam projects today and attending a guest lecture by Prof. Juliet John in my Charles Dickens-course in which my exam topic has also been accepted, so all in all, just crazy work schedule with exams, teachings, family gatherings, and trying to pick up a moment or two to catch my breath.

I am also in the bud of deciding on my master's thesis topic so I can apply for a mentor medio May. So weird that I am writing my final piece (hopefully!) this fall! Then no more school but just the real world. Scary, but also terribly exciting.

Anyways, if we get back to the main reason of today, the fashion, I. WANT. ALL.

I am not even sure whether I can pick one favourite over them all which I am usually able to. Now that I look at the pieces together, it seems like I have quite an eclectic style. With bits of street, bits of glamour, bits of vintage, bits of quirky, bits of rock.

Sadly though, none of this is in my actual closet, but if I had the money, I think the first piece I would buy is the Chloé bell sleeve dress because it is so versatile. The last would probably be the Miu Miu iPhone case since I don't actually own an iPhone, so purchasing a case would probably be a tad silly of me, no?

Oh well, one can dream while treading around Aarhus in my blue Converse and shift dresses. And that's is certainly not too bad either.

Inspired by Ophelia

Despite her tragedy, I have always felt a strong connection with Ophelia and have many times pondered on whether she would survive in our society or is forever a doomed being regardless of times and eras. That aside, I feel we should celebrate one of the most interesting characters from the bard's hand and also a small patriotic salute to a 'fellow Dane'.

A long-term disease, most common among young women.
Symptoms: depression, bouts of mania, suicidal thoughts, slight insomnia, feelings of helplessness and dependence on others, the tendency to lose oneself in vivid daydreams, an intense longing for people and things one can never have, a strong sense of aestheticism and an appreciation for the beauty in little things, the urge to decorate everything with daisy chains.

Happy Birthday, Charlotte Brontë

Just a small salute to the author of Jane Eyre.

I still wonder how it came to be that in the middle of nowhere in Yorkshire, three young girls were able to write at least two of the most beloved and haunting novels of all time.

Personally, I did not start off liking the Brontës at all - too much feeling and agony! But lately I have come to understand what they were trying to show. The much wider scope of feeling than Jane Austen would ever allow explicitly told, and somehow without the moral judgement of the same. My memories of the novels are better than my direct experiences with them. Nostalgia, or succombing to peer pressure?

Anyways, the artwork and the interpretations of Jane Eyre still show some of the most beautiful images I have seen.

Decor Inspiration: Elegant Bedroom

I like my bedroom. It is rather big and light, and I have the morning sun through my windows to wake and cheer me up.

However, I am flirting with the idea of painting my walls (they are just plain white at the moment) but I cannot decide. The problem is that in the evening and in the Fall and Winter, it does not appear to be big and light! So I don't want to go too dark and feel claustrophobic as a result. And I have the same issue with my living room...

So that's an ongoing struggle with me and myself. Nevertheless, I really adore this look of a bedroom with the elegant touch of the mauve and greyish purple. The owner wanted it to get a hotel room feeling.

I don't know about that since I mostly travel 'low class' and spend my money on shopping and food {hotels' Afternoon Teas mostly!} instead of hotel rooms. But I like the coherence and the calming elegance of this colour scheme. I wonder whether this would be too dark for my room but since I have a white-ish bed it might actually work.

I like the small tableau with porcelain and flowers on top of the custom build radiator cover as well as the Maskros IKEA-lamp which is very popular here in Denmark. I have seen it everywhere, from offices to private homes to drycleaners to everywhere... But I like it. Naturally, since maskros means dandelion!

Usually, I do not spend Easter because it alters into a recap-vacation in the vancancy of classes. I visit my Mom and my grandparents for nice lunches, but is the decorating and egg hunting thing, I always skip. That was a thing of my childhood experiences; blowing eggs and painting them with water colours.

But I must say that all of the sweet whimsical pictures of different ways to dye eggs and decorate with them over at Pinterest got me wishing I had time to try it. Alas, this year it is not to be, but I will show you guys some of the sweetest pictures in case you are in want of last-minute inspiration.

Denim Accents

This spread is from an old Danish fashion magazine, Costume. Well, 'old' is probably rather big, however, in fashion life, 2005 is almost a million years ago. Nevertheless, I enjoy looking through my old magazines and either discover stuff I would hate to admit that I wore, or things that are surpricingly stylish yet or on the verge of becoming again. (Have you seen the scarf-hem skirts and dresses popping up? So 90s!!!!)

I fell for this spread's etheral look paired with the denim, and I think you could easily pull these looks off today without both eyebrows raised at you. Perhaps this is because of the denim. So wardrobe essential amd classic that almost anything with this fabric goes.

I used to not be a denim-loving girl, however, since I have lost some weight (much needed!) I have rekindled my relationship with it, and have discovered the love for straight jeans. My biggest problem though is the gap between my back and the denim. I always have to take in an inch after a while, but I cannot buy a smaller size due to my thighs. Anyone familiar with this hazzle? So I am not yet ready to spend big bucks on jeans until I have discovered a brand or style that can avoid this (or at least minimize drastically).

Have you any personal favourite pairing with denim? Need to dress it up with sparkles? Plain tees? Blazers?

What do you think of these suggestions?

Oh my, time passes quickly these days. Rushing from one place to another, reading several books and texts on my exam topics, and not quite seeming to take it in. Luckily, now it is Easter, and I can catch up on some of the things that went behind. Just like this little blog. It is still my favourite hide-away from the dreary everyday world, and what could possibly be better than all these new beauties I have to show you?

I actually think, I have found the perfect red high heels! And I have been looking EVERYWHERE for a pair without irritating details or too low heel. But these could be the ones. The only concern I have is the colour. Whether it is slightly too salmon and not just red. What do you think?

Other than that, it just want to let Victoria Beckham know that I would very much like to switch closet with her (naturally in my imagination this involves a full army of fairies who can make all the garments into my size!). I am sure she could find one or two things she might like in MY closet, so she should just drop by really...

Ah well, one can dream right? But I do, especially about the dress and her bag. G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S!!!!

My Everyday Beauty Essentials

Hi everyone. I hope you are not all miffed about my long absenses once in a while, but school does have a nasty habit of interfering with my life. We have a lot of reading in my Dickens class and I am starting up my final project in another class, so things do get a bit hectic and thus time runs fast. Sadly, I don't feel that inspired by the projects so they aren't something I would blog about.

Nevertheless, I thought I would share with you my favourites in beauty products. These are my everyday products more or less, and I thought that maybe you guys would like to know what a student in Denmark spends her student scholarship on - besides books, pens, and paper.

I am quite the beautyholic. I love beauty products, far better than shoes and dresses. My favourite products would be lipsticks and nail polish. However, I was actually a slow starter with makeup since I was in the local swimming club's elite class, and therefore it was a surprice finding days where my hair was dry! Naturally therefor, I couldn't be bothered with applying makeup and cleansing my face constantly.

So my everyday makeup routine didn't come into being until I was about 17, and high school took the place swimming had had prior.

However, I have always (or since I was 13-14 years old) used daycream and nightcream, and often also eyecream. Otherwise, I think my face would have dried off due to chlorid water and constant showering. But I feel bad if I skip it, and it can be counted on a single hand how many times I have skipped cleansing before going to bed. I hate waking up with makeup smudged out everywhere.

I also tend to use the daily skin care routine, and now also makeup routine, as a kind of meditation and self-appreaciation time. I feel more at ease and the best days are the days where you just know that you look great and don't really need to touch-up constantly.

But anyways, these are my current favourites:

*Tromborg Deluxe face cream (Danish organic brand) I am so glad to have found this one. I feel like a goddess everytime I apply this. And the smell is like heaven.. And even though I am not all-in-green, I do like my skincare to be without the most terrible stuff.

*Guerlain Météorite Perles de Nuit This was my Christmas present from my Mother. I adore the silver pearls and the gorgeous glow it gives. I am quite pale, so this shade is really amazing for my teint. Wish this was a regular colour and not just a LE. Love the packaging as well.

*Chanel Extracils mascara 12. This particular is in brown. I really like the subtle look this gives. Perfect everyday eyes. But it is a constant back and forth between black and brown depending on the rest of the look.

*Yves Roche Luminelle Rouge Dragée lipstick no. 65. I buy from post-order companies like Yves Roche and Oriflame. Especially their lipsticks are quite amazing, and this tone is actually just a tiny shade darker than my natural lip colour, so it is perfect throughout the day.

*H&M Hello Kitty Darling Pink nail polish and Maybelline Blue Ceramics nail polish. I change my nail colours A LOT, but the first is one of my all-time favourites and the last one is a recent purchase which I adore in bottle and on nail.

*Bobby Brown blush in Peony. Normally, I wear pink blushes, and even though this looks rather bold, it gives me the porcelain doll teint without it being too 80s either. And the fact that it is called Peony is a treat in itself!

*Shisheido Lilac Irise eyeshadow. I love lilac tones, and this, as well as Max Factor's Lush Lilac, is one of my daily wears.

*Wood edt. This is from a Danish equivalent to a 1$ store, but it so amazing! I don't like the citrus scents or the too flower-y scents, so this is more subdued and more interesting. More masculine in a way. I guess that's a good thing since I tend to be very feminine otherwise.

Okay, that came out to be a lot of writing! Hope you injoyed it nevertheless...

Art Deco Fashion

I have just finished a lovely book about pochoir prints of the 1920s, and I just wanted to share some of my favourites.

Art Deco and the clothes from that period are some of my favourites, and I particularly love the style of presentation. The Japaneese-inspired print technique is perfect for these graphical and bold dresses and hairstyles. I love the way they show fur accents and the difference between shiny fabrics and embroidered ones.

Flora from Royal Copenhagen

Oohh, it has been a little while since my last post here, sorry about that. I had actually meant to post during the weekend but had a small setback due to school as well as not feeling quite well. Luckily, that's over - the unwell part, school still lingers around, ready to jump at me when I am seconds to forget such thing ever existed. But hey, this semester and then my dissertation - done! I shouldn't complain, so I will just skip to the real point of this post.

Some time ago, I posted some scans from this year's catalogue from Royal Copenhagen and I mentioned a new addition to the lovely services but I was so cruel and didn't say anything more! How cruel indeed.. (please excuse my language, I have been reading way too much Dickens lately. It may be beginning to rub off!)

I LOVE this new service called Flora. It is like Flora Danica mega! But without the similar prize tag. And the very best part in my opinion?

One of the six designs is with DANDELIONS!

Oh, how pretty it is! I hope they will create more designs so you can set the table with just different plates. And I really like the gold accents in this shoot. So cool up against the grey-green cloths and napkins.

But seriously, how loud do you think I shrieked when I saw this? I can't decide whether I would go for just dandelions or all six designs.

Spring time is near if not already happening. Perhaps, I am just a bit timid to trust that is is finally here for real and for good. Nevertheless, the shops don't care, they have dusted off the old pastel palette and just added hints of bold colours, as well as glitter en masse. I thought I saw glitter, sequins, beading, diamonds, gemstones, gold, and silver constantly. Not that I mind at all.

The Kenneth Jay Lane-necklace is beyond amazing - and it is HUGE! I bet it is incredible in real life.

But really, I think these goodies speek for themselves, so there's little need for me to go on about them. And off course, you can just follow the title-link and find out where I clipped the items.

Oh, and I swear that I will never get too old for pretty dolls, especially this cute from Lanvin.

Oscar Dresses

Last night was the Oscar night, as you may well have heard.. Given that I live in Denmark, the show airs from midnight and ends at 5 AM, so I didn't watch this year due to classes today, Monday (sucks!)

However, this is also a fashion newsletter appreciation post, because they never fail me on days like this. Due to their early tidings, I now know who and what won, and almost more importantly, who wore what!

And in that specific category, here are my winners of the evening....

The most stunning and perfect dress - ever, I dare say! Actually, I am speechless, so I will just leave it with this.

Gorgeous beading, amazing colour, and perfect fit. Love love love all around..

Normally, I prefer Cameron Diaz in bright and bold colours, but she really looks great in this nude gown, and perfectly accessorized too. You often see this stage of a look overdone, but here it is spot on.

I am a sucker for two-tone dresses, especially in black and white, and I really like the beading belt-like details.

So far, my favourites have been the "colour-less" dresses, but Emma Stone really looks lovely in this pink/red gown. Very simple design but fits her like a glove, and a nice and elegant bow. These too often look too much like a bow, you know like bows on presents, but this "punctured" one is just right.

I must admit, I had to look twice if not three times, to see this is actually Penelope Cruz. The hair do confused me, but she looks amazing. Beautiful colour and cut for her, and again not over-accessorized. Elegance par se.

Awesomest indie-shop and gallery

Hi there.. Sorry for the absense here, but I have been feeling a little upside down lately and suddenly the days just went by. Anyways, I hope that you are all alright and perhaps also a little warmer? In Denmark, we have had plus degrees the past week or so. A very welcome change, and I found myself giggle to myself when I saw my first snowdrops of the season.

Today, I will introduce you to an amazing shop and gallery, all about the indie-creativeness which sometimes drown abit in the overall picture.

The shop is run by five designers and they use it as a working station as well as a shop and gallery.

Especially the last is what makes me call it the awesomest shop. They have about 15 regular artists in house, and they feature solo-shows in their little hall gallery. I was somewhat lucky that I couldn't stay for long due to an appointment, because I could be myself straight to ruin. So many quirky and great art prints by up-and-coming artists, as well as original works.

Here's just some pictures from their website to give you a small taste of what they've got.

You have to be aware that the shop is tucked away a bit from the street because you only see one narrow window facing the street and no immediate door, it is on the side up some stairs.

But if you ever find you way to Aarhus, make a stop here. I don't think you will regret it..

CPH Fashion Week: Rützou AW12

My four favourite looks from one of my favourite Danish fashion brands, Rützou. The simplicity and elegance of the navy silk suit is beyond words for me. I am also hoping that the necklace will be put into production and not just a showpiece. (I hate that!)

I may also consider opting for a new coat when this collection hits stores. I really like the flowers applications at the collar.

Royal Copenhagen 2012

Besides books and paper dolls, Royal Copenhagen was my first love, and since I just found the new catalogue I will show you their wonderful styling of their iconic pieces. I am always excited about great Danish design, and to think this company dates back to 1775 and still going strong is nectar for my mind - and eyes..

I lust for a pantry like this! And I really like the personal ways of styling and choosing among the variety of the designs they offer.

Personally, I go with the blue paint but the Black Mega Fluted is also very cool and contemporary, which is the key to succes for such an old company as Royal Copenhagen. They dared to bring the old up-to-date - and scored big time!

Please invite me to dinners like these!! I beg on my humble knees...

Perfection *misty eyes*

As Danish as it gets; Royal Copenhagen and strawberries with cream and sugar. I am already longing for summer when looking at this.

There was also another new addition to the pretty Royal Copenhagen-family, but I will save that for another day and give it a post of its own. It is that adorable in my eyes.

However, do not think that they would do a catalogue without Flora Danica, Zodiacs, or the pretty hygendra vases, I just chose the prettiest styled pictures. So by all means, grap a copy if you can and drool over the prettiness with pretty on top.

CFW: Edith & Ella AW12

I love fashion and especially autumn fashion. The elegance, the layers, the colours, the lot.

And I will never hesitate to promote Danish brands when I think it is due, and when I feel like I can vouch for them. One of these brands which I have yet to see fail is the Edith & Ella, named after the designer's grandmothers (how cute, no?) and the look is described as granny-chic. It is vintage without the vintage, if that makes sense.

I have some super cute silk dresses from the brand, and the stores are also very cute and quirky in just the right amount without it trying too much. There is this fine line of dressing and dressing up, and you can easily overdo a look or style like this.

These are my favourite looks from the just finished Copenhagen Fashion Week.

Since I am taking a course on Dickens this semester, this is just a small token of wishing the man who gave us such memorable characters like Betsy Trotwood, Fagin, Oliver Twist, Scrooge, Nicholas Nickelby, and various others, a happy bicentennial birthday today.

I have only read Great Expectations in full, else it has been small summaries or only selected pages from his large bibliography.

Currently, I am enjoying David Copperfield for the forst time, and I break down laughing every time Ms Trotwood appears. I saw in my search that Maggie Smith has portrayed her in one of the countless adaptations, and I have to see that! I am quite positive that I should have stomach aches afterwards from laughter.

Here's to the future centuries and generations who will hopefully also enjoy this legacy of wit and energy.

(Maybe I will also become a Dickensian if all the conferences are in the South of France as claimed by my teacher! A very promising prospect considering we have not had plus degrees in almost a fortnight here in Denmark)

I actually don't remember anymore where I first stumpled upon Swedish illustrator Emma Kristina Hultkrantz's amazing artworks. But they had me hooked with their whimsical and yet minimalist style. The bold edges and pastel colours are an amazing combo.

Some of you may know her from Matchbook Magazine where she does a take on What's In My Bag with all the famous ladies out there, like Marilyn, Jackie, Birgitte, Coco etc.

And today, I just discovered she has started a small line of scarves with her wonderful prints. Limited of about 100 each, these could really become a treasure and a keepsake. I am quite hooked on the Marie Antoinette one.

I am thinking of saving up for custom bespoke illustrations of the three luxury items I am saving for, like a white Birkin bag, Chanel 2.55 bag, and Louboutin heels. Just to help me remind myself everyday when I dance around in my apartment.

Hi guys, as I mentioned back in December, I have decided to do change my Weekly Favourites to a monthly feature in stead. It is rather time consuming going through many webshops each week so I have narrowed it down to the shops I visited the most in the first place and then just once a month.

This will hopefully also give room for more diverse posts in stead of just these favourites of mine.

Anyways, it seems as if I really have become a French chic kinda girl because labels like Miu Miu, Vionnet and Lanvin just echoes my name all over every time. Add a little Scandinavian Edge and it is my dream wardrobe.

I am quite infatuated with the embroidered book clutches by Olympia Le Tan and the one with Shakespeare's collected works is a bibliophile's idea of fashion heaven! Unfortunately, the Shakespeare one is already sold-out but there are several cute and awesome ones like Lolita, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Dangerous Liasons.

This past weekend, we had snow for the first time this winter but oh, how I long for spring and bold colours.. I may actually buy that Acne skirt just because of the beautiful colour. Also, I would like classic items in more unusual colours so this would be ideal.

And for kicks, the Stine Goya & Sophie Bille Brahe gold Horse ring and the Miu Miu cherry sandals. So cute...
