Happy π Day

My favourite food are pies, so what is not to like when celebrating or commemorating the intriguing concept of π (pi)?
There is no particular reason as to why we celebrate this except that math is cool, pies are cool, puns are cool, and combined makes it all the more awesome.

Oh, and we celebrate π today because it is March 14th (3.14...)

{Happy Easter}

Usually, I do not spend Easter because it alters into a recap-vacation in the vancancy of classes. I visit my Mom and my grandparents for nice lunches, but is the decorating and egg hunting thing, I always skip. That was a thing of my childhood experiences; blowing eggs and painting them with water colours.
But I must say that all of the sweet whimsical pictures of different ways to dye eggs and decorate with them over at Pinterest got me wishing I had time to try it. Alas, this year it is not to be, but I will show you guys some of the sweetest pictures in case you are in want of last-minute inspiration.

Happy Easter!

{Fairy Bread}

The cutest and girliest snack ever! Fairy Bread.
Apparently, it is a huge hit downunder at children's parties and no wonder - sliced white bread with butter and sprinkles. That's it!

{The Dandelion Chronicles} 1 year old!

The morning was set off by an exquisite breakfast with the last blooming roses from the garden. The coffee was hot and the croissants were buttery. Nothing else to do but to enjoy the tastes and slowly feel the coffee invigorate you for the birthday of this little blog.

Presents wrapped in the prettiest paper with lace trimmings waited the birthady girl when she descended the stairs. All she ever wanted and dreamt of was there..

Balloons, glitter, and happy faces, all there to greet you and wish you the very best of best's.

Cakes outdoing the decor and sugary sweets to melt on your tongue. Macarons, eclairs, tartes...

Blackcurrant layercake with white chocolate cream and liqourice marenges.

Sparklers all around to celebrate the first year of my little darling which The Dandelion Chronicles has become.

I just want to say thank you to my followers and all the sweet visitors from all around the globe. It is truly amazing to know that people far far away have visited my little outlet of inspiration and creativity. I could not ask for a sweeter online community than what I am a part of here and to think that other bloggers have featured my blog in their blogrolls and links makes me quite humble.
I am greatful for having found other people who like the same things that I do and also tries to give their lives a little sparkle, and I hope this little blog will be around for a long time.

xoxo,

Fall Feeling

These past few days have experienced the coming of fall and as lovely it may be with the warm and rich colours, as cold and sorrowful it can be at the thought of the barreness to come.

In order to fight the angst striking, I went to one of the best bakeries in Aarhus to prevent my flight-wish, namely the Aarhus-originated Emmery's. And the perfect indulgence for this was their Madeleines with orange zest and white chocolate. Perfectly moist and almost melting on your tongue.. Perfect bite.
In addition, they make the most delicious Italien-inspired breads and they have cafés as well in all of their bakeries here in Aarhus.

The first bakery opened down at Guldsmedsgade at the Latin Quarters, but there are also one in Magasin du Nord, and on the corner of M.P. Bruunsgade and Brammersgade. {The last one is on the photo}
The prizes are somewhat higher than a traditional bakery, however I do find that if you are in want of the perfect bread for a date dinner or just for self-indulgence {like me..} this would be the place to go.

As you can see, I was really in the spirit of fall and winter {Truth be told, I actually waited anticipantly for the weather to cool off so I could drink my Winter Teas from Pickwick!} The Madeleines also come in a variant with dark chocolate and nuts, and the prize is one for 10 DKr, and three for 20 DKr [circa £2].

What are your fall or autumn treats?

Chocolat

Currently, I'm reading Joanne Harris' sequel to 'Chocolat' and loving it! Usually, I'm more of a vanilla girl (my body lotion and favourite recipes contain vanilla) but after reading the incredible details of chocolate making in 'Chocolat' and reviving those images whilst reading the sequel, the only outcome of this could only be images of chocolate posted on this blog..
I like chocolate, don't get me wrong! I like the flavour, the colours, the options for what you can use it for, the sound, the memory, the thought of chocolate.. However, I do not like the cheap stuff that is more sugar and milk than chocolate. In addition, the setting of chocolate is also important to my experience of it. The wrapping paper, the box with little ribbons, the cafés that serve it and so on. My favourite is rich warm chocolate with a dash of chili and vanilla, and sometimes with a little whipped cream on top. Second to that, is white chocolate (that doesn't really have that much to do with chocolate when considering the bean) but there's a lot of vanilla in it..
Some weeks ago, I saw a documentary on chocolate and its origins. I discovered that thanks to chocolate we have weekends!
Apparently, it was when the Quakers started chocolate factories and created cities around the factories for their workers that the weekend was invented due to their religious beliefs. I also think it said that social benefits and other stuff that we take for granted as part of the welfare has origins back to the Quakers' chocolate factories.
When I see displays of chocolate, I am often slightly disappointed. Its too cool in a way, no warmth or sensualality to it. I guess, I'm more "back to basics" and the Mayas in this matter because I crave chocolate the most if I see it against warm colours oozing with sex and mystery, and leading your thoughts to more sensual matters. It is an aphrodisic after all.. Why don't the producers use that?!
This picture comes close to how I would set up a chocolaterie.. Warm sensual colours evoking forgotten longings and dreams in dark and semi-sweet chocolate with small splashes of white chocolate..
I can look at this picture for a loooooooong time...
I just like pretty labels and this one contains chocolate and Paris - what's not to like?
If only I had some cream I'd go make myself a lucious cup of hot chocolate right now.
Denmark is currently experiencing several talented chocolate makers, however, none with the warmth and sensuality that I like so much but with the Scandinavian cool (here: white and crisp) aesthetics.. However, it does taste like heaven..
Among these brands are Summerbird, Sct. Michelsen, Eliza, Magasin Chokolade, Frellsen and probably many more..

Inspired by Caravaggio

Actually, it all started with one of the food blogs I stop by on a regular basis. I'm amazed of how they portray the food and even with a very few props (or ingredients). Many of the pictures reminds me of Caravaggio and of his use of clair obscure. He's one of my favourite painters of all time, and it was huge for me to see some of his paintings in Rome and where they were supposed to be. Sometimes I'm annoyed of how I loose the context and the meanings incorporated into the works when they are replaced in art museums. But perhaps that's just me.. Anyways, lovely pictures inspired by Caravaggio (and food blogs!)
