Art Deco-inspired Weddings Gowns

Through Stumbleupon, I just found these beautiful wedding gowns by Yolan Chris at Wedding Inspirasi. I like to take a look at wedding websites; they offer a ton of beautiful and inspirational images to kick start your next party (even though it doesn't have to be a wedding) or drawings. Sometimes I wonder why I don't just take the plunge and start to design wedding dresses because I have done that all my life anyway. 

 Anyways, here's one who has. The dresses by Yolan Chris are simply stunning in their quite simplistic silhuette but the beading and the details are exquisite when you take a closer look. If I'm ever to marry, I would love to wear something in the lines of these.

Oh, and I ADORE the hats and veils... and the readhead!! My personal favourites among these are no. 2 and 4.

Weekly Favourites week 10

Apparently I just have a thing for dresses this week; girly, stylish, dramatic, summerish (if there's such a word) and beautiful. I espacially love the prints on the Stine Goya dresses and the yellow Marc by Marc Jacobs dress, and in my opinion it should be a musthave item in any wardrobe for summer as a LBD! What additions would you make to the 'musthave-all time-classics-never-can-go-wrong' list?

Amber par Excellence

A few nights ago, I stumpled on a TV show about architecture and the host visited the Catherine Palace in Russia, and from the first view I was completely dumbstruck! Definately on my 'must see in real life before I die' list. It was build in the 1700s but was bombed during WWII and is now restored to its original glory. I just can't stop looking at the detail.. Especially in the amber room. I have always loved amber, it was called the gold of the North, and I recall many summerdays at the beach trying to find a piece of amber. Never succeded so far, though. I'm also scanning every jewlery store to find a pair of earrings like those Nicole Kidman wears in The Hours as Virginia Woolf. Perfection in my humble opinion.

Anyways, I just wanted to share some pictures of this place with you guys.

Museum Details

Here's some pictures of some of my favourite things at ARoS Aarhus Museum of Art. I like walking around the pretty paintings and sculptures, and I always start at the top with The Golden Age in Danish art and work my way down to the special exhibitions and The Nine Rooms. Later this year, there's going to open a special installation on top of the building created by Olafur Elliason called Your Rainbow Panorama and I'm very exited about it. From outside its very beautiful but I'll tell you about it in details when its done and I've visited.

By Eckesberg, considered to be the founding father of The Danish Golden Age in painting.

The rural paintings were very popular in Denmark in the 19th C, however, they were all idealized versions of the happy but ignorant peasant. It was not until late 1880s and 1890s that socialist themes began to merge into these paintings.

Detail of a young girl's folk dress. In real life, this detail is about 15 cm and I'm always strusk by the amount of detail in her lace bonnet and shawl.

Painting by Anna Ancher, one of the Skagen Painters and Denmark's main figure in Impressionism. No one else in Denmark was that influenced by the movement.

Girl with blue Ribbon - by a French painter whose name I don't remember.

Painting by Wilhelm Hammershøi. The most famous of his paintings is localised in Randers Art Museum, north of Aarhus.

I like the clash between the very elaborate gilded phrame and the expressive style of the painting.

Maison d'Elephant by John Kørner (DK). He was one of the invited artists who decorated the royal apartments at Amalienborg Castle to the Crown Prince Couple together with Kathrine Ærtebjerg and others.

So, there you go. A little visual history of art at Aarhus Museum of Art from around 1770 to present. I haven't included pictures from The Nine Rooms due to them being more installations or video montages and should be experinced live in order to give the best presentation.

Blooming fashion

A little more fashion this Friday. These are from a spread in a free magazine done by the department store, Magasin du Nord, in Denmark.

I really like the flowers accent with the styling. PhotographerJette Jørs, Stylist As Øland/Look Book and model Cathrine Nørgaard/Unique.

Weekly Favourites week 9

I have a thing for pretty girly dresses with a vintage feel to them. The shades are almost all in the nude - champagne - blush - apricot scheme this week. The same goes with the accessories and the seperates but with the jeans to dress the whole thing down a bit. They do seem like the perfect jeans to me. I may have to run them up and try them, even though it would go against my non-buying resolution this year (which I by the way have managed so far!!! Yay for me!!) And last but not least, go to my Polyvore account to get the info as where to buy the goodies.

Scandinavian Coat of Arms

I just found this website today and I find this utterly hilarious!! Its how Scandinavia and the rest of the world would interact if they were cartoon characters based on the simplest stereotypes and mocking of each other. This is great fun but if you are easily provoked about others making fun of you and your country - then don't go there, however, most is about how the Scandinavians tease and provoke each other but with a wink! ;)
